50 seconds connects Sketchy bongo & major lazer

Sketchy Bongo is an electronic music producer, artist and DJ from Durban, South Africa. Major Lazer is an American electronic music group.

While they originate from different continents, they are connected by time - 50 seconds to be exact.

What am I talking about?

If you listen to the two tracks below, you'll notice that at 50 seconds they both use a similar vocal treatment that’s very ‘of the moment'.

Clearly the sounds aren't exact replicas but you’ve got to admit it’s pretty close!

Just an observation - and further evidence - that South African artists are up there with the best of them.

Let's fall in love some more             Al Bairre

Kids don't lie.

I was listening to 'Let's fall in love some more' one Sunday afternoon.

My young son walked into the room and said, 'Dad, who's that?'

Excitedly I replied, "It's Al Bairre son, they're cool hey?"

Without saying a word he left the room. (Fine, I thought, I like them.)

A minute or so later he returned with the iPad.

"What's their name again?"

With even more enthusiasm this time I said, "The're called Al Bairre and they're from Cape Town - they're pretty awesome hey?"

He then looked down to the screen resting on his right arm, searched for Al Bairre on Spotfiy and added the band to his playlist.

He then left the room once more....but this time an Al Bairre fan.
